Cost Management

Strict cost management is synonymous with lower claims costs for our customers, so it is central to everything we do at SOS.

The SOS Cost Management programme involves virtually all departments of SOS – from our network department and team of doctors to our emergency response centres and administration. The programme is activated as soon as we enter into a contract with a supplier, and only ends once the final invoice has been paid.

Thus, the programme covers three phases: Contract negotiation, Case Management and Cost Control, whereby costs are managed before, during and after the acute response phase.

Contract negotiation

Prices and discounts, along with quality and loyalty, are key parameters in SOS’ choice of suppliers. SOS’ large volume in terms of the number of cases handled, a well-functioning global network and experienced employees all help put us in a position to enter into advantageous discount agreements with the best suppliers. SOS’ local service offices also do their part here by virtue of their knowledge of conditions and price levels in the individual countries.

Case Management

During an assistance process, we keep a constant focus on high quality at the lowest possible prices – whether from suppliers of transportation, medical treatment or something else altogether. At the same time, we ensure that medical treatment is given in accordance with our SOS doctor’s instructions.

Cost Control

Many years of familiarity with treatment centres all over the world puts SOS in a position to assess the costs of treatment or other services accurately. One of the key tasks of SOS’ administration is to monitor incoming bills and ensure compliance with the pricing agreements we have entered into, and also ensure that any amounts charged unreasonably for services are deducted.
