Report a case

Please contact SOS immediately if an individual covered by a private insurance policy handled by SOS or the Danish tourist health insurance scheme (den offentlige rejsesygesikring i Danmark) applies for medical assistance during a trip.

Procedure for reporting a case:

  • Please report the case via the Suppliers’ Network or by telephone, or fill in a claim form that can either be faxed or scanned and sent as an e-mail attachment.

  • The report will be entered in SOS’ case system and will be assigned a case number, which should be quoted in any additional communications.

  • SOS examines the traveller’s insurance status.

  • An SOS doctor assesses the medical situation and contacts the treating doctor at the destination for detailed information on the patient’s condition.

  • Based on this information, the SOS doctor decides whether any treatment costs are covered by the policy.

  • Information on what is covered is sent to the patient and the medical facility.

The SOS doctor monitors the patient’s condition and keeps the medical journal updated until the patient can be discharged or repatriated for any further treatment. Throughout the process, the patient, relatives, tour guide and medical facility are informed regularly of the current status.

If the traveller dies, SOS arranges all the practical aspects involving undertakers, paperwork and repatriation – or local burial if the relative so wishes.
